The Choir of Chanters "Trikkis Melodoi"

(Athens Concert Hall - October 16th, 2006)

 

   The Choir of Chanters Trikkis Melodoi was established in 2004 by Demetrios Balageorgos, lecturer of the Department of Music Studies in the National University of Athens, and as main goals and objectives has the systematic study, pure tradition and promotion of the Psaltic Art, the presentation of the works of byzantine and post-byzantine composers and the chanting of entire divine services during time of worship.

   The Choir is made up of Chanters from Trikala (Thessaly, Greece) wide area churches and students of Psaltic Art in the conservatories of town.

   Trikkis Melodoi have participated in divine services in Trikala, Kalampaka, the Holy Meteora and Elassona. They have also participated at the 1st celebration for the liberation of the town of Trikala from turkish occupation as well the festivities in memory of St Bissarion in kalampaka.

   In 2006, they have recorded, on behalf of the Holy Monastery of Varlaam (Meteora), a double CD titled "The hive of Meteora, rejoices..." containing chants from the service for the Holy Meteorite Fathers.  

   The Choir have also participated at the 3rd International Convention for the Psaltic Art, held at The Athens Concert Hall in October 2006, organized by the Byzantine Musicology Institution of the Church of Greece.
